What level of experience is needed for this course?
This ten week course suits absolute beginners and those who have some prior painting experience.
Eve Dawson, who is a professional artist & mentor, specializes in an expressionist and intuitive style of working which is full of energy and colour.
What happens each week
Week 1 Introduction to tools and techniques
Eve will introduce you to Acrylic paints, with a basic intro to techniques and the tools used to achieve those techniques. These will be presented as a live demonstration that you can paint along to.
Weeks 2 and 3 Expressionist & Abstract Skies
Using techniques and tools from week 1 Eve will guide you through the process of creating your own abstract interpretation of the sky, taking inspiration from an image provided. This will include choosing the right colours and tones.
Week 4 and 5 Abstract Landscape
Taking reference from a landscape image provided, Eve will discuss, demonstrate and work alongside you to create an abstract visual response. Learn what to include, what to abstract, and to explore different forms of mark making as abstract language.
Week 6 Recap of course so far
Eve will present a general recap and overview of what has been learnt in weeks 1 – 5
Week 7 Independent work
This week will be a chance to do your ‘own thing’. Use an image as reference, or consider working in a completely serendipitous way, letting your paintbrush lead the way. Eve will guide you through this process.
Week 8 and 9 Sea Views
This week you will be encouraged to create a painting that puts into practise all you have learnt so far. Please provide an image of a sea scape, or sea view. Eve will be working on a seascape and will discuss how you might approach the process, what kind of brushstrokes to use, and which colours, textures and materials.
Week 10 Show and Tell
