What level of experience is needed for this course?

Eve Dawson, who is a professional artist & mentor, specializes in an expressionist and intuitive style of working which is full of energy and colour.

What happens each week

Week 1     Introduction / Expressionist & Abstract Skies

Eve will introduce you to Acrylic paints, with a basic intro to techniques and the tools used to achieve those techniques. These will be presented as a live demonstration that you can paint along to.

Weeks 2

Using techniques and tools from week 1 Eve will guide you through the process of creating your own abstract interpretation of the sky, taking inspiration from an image  provided. This will include choosing the right colours and tones.

Week 3 Abstract Landscape

Taking reference from a landscape image provided, Eve will discuss, demonstrate and work alongside you to create an abstract visual response. Learn what to include, what to abstract, and to explore different forms of mark making as abstract language.

Week 4     Sea Views

This week you will be encouraged to create a painting that puts into practise all you have learnt so far. Please provide an image of a sea scape, or sea view. Eve will be working on a seascape and will discuss how you might approach the process, what kind of brushstrokes to use, and which colours, textures and materials.

Week 5     More Seas and Show and Tell

Show and tell, plus ‘constructive and helpful’ critique.
