What to expect on this course
This is a beginners course introducing you to painting with this light filled medium. On this 5 week course of water colour painting, you will explore translucence and transparency. You will be playing with colour to create form, rhythm, the value of tone, harmony and discord, and…surprise. Sarah will show you many techniques; like tools in a box you will discover ways to create light and atmosphere.
Over the time of the course you will be taking inspiration from artists, such as Cezanne, Paul Klee, Elizabeth Blackadder, Edward Hopper and others. Most importantly you will be trusting and training our own eyes to interpret what is in front of you, by making notes like music, of beauty.
You don’t need millions of colours, just a basic range of warms and cools, including:
- Cobalt blue
- Ultramarine blue
- Phthalo blue
- veridiun green
- sap green
- Paynes grey
- Burnt Sienna
- Yellow ochre
- Alizarin crimson
- Cadmium red
- Cadmium orange
- Cadmium Yellow
- Lemon yellow
Most paint boxes will contain these.
A good selection of watercolour brushes, flat and round for different mark making,
Good quality water colour paper, and scraps of w/c paper for testing – we are going to do a lot of mixing.
There will be optional Homework.
