In many ways using acrylic paints is intuitive.
However, acrylic paints come in a variety of different forms with different methods of application, whether used simply with water, or with added mediums. A knowledgeable tutor, pointing you in the right direction will make all the difference. The variety of uses is as extensive as you make it. What to expect on ‘Introduction to Acrylics’
This is suitable for all of you who are interested in painting with Acrylics at a beginner level. Discover your natural creativity through the use of acrylic paints, pens & inks, plus other materials. You will discover you can be intuitive with acrylics paints and be able to paint and draw in a free flowing way.
Totally immerse yourself in two days with Eve Dawson who will share her knowledge and enthusiasm for this media.
Eve will teach you about acrylic tools, skills, best methods and encourage you to explore and experiment with this wonderfully flexible and exciting medium.
Technical Bit
Acrylic paint is a fast-drying paint made of pigment suspended in acrylic polymer emulsion and plasticizers, silicon oils, defoamers, stabilizers, or metal soaps. Most acrylic paints are water-based, but become water-resistant when dry. Depending on how much the paint is diluted with water, or modified with acrylic gels, mediums, or pastes, the finished acrylic painting can resemble a watercolor, a gouache, or an oil painting, or have its own unique characteristics not attainable with other media
Materials
If you are taking this course as part of The Inquisitive Person’s Introduction to Art materials are provided. Other wise, please bring the materials as indicated below.
- 2 large ready made canvases or thick cartridge paper A1,
- Acrylic Paints: Any paints you may already have including:
- Titanium White,
- Payne’s Grey,
- Indigo,
- Ultramarine Blue,
- Cadmium Red,
- Magenta or Rose,
- Lemon Yellow,
- Cadmium Yellow, all available from The Range or online with Amazon, often in starter packs.
Tools for applying paint: straight edge brushes, rounded brushes, palette knives, plastic scrapers, old credit cards, sponges and old house brushes, plastic sheeting to protect walls and all surfaces, water sprayer, apron or old shirt. Two jam jars for water. Plus kitchen roll for general mopping up!

Eve Dawson runs regular courses with Hampshire Art studio and can advise anyone about which acrylics classes would suit them. There are other beginners classes, experimental classes and workshops.
